Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the MetarBot website and browser features available on metarbot.com. It covers airport weather searches, maps, weather charts, traffic views, alert tools, browser storage, and optional web push notifications.
MetarBot is designed as an aviation weather and situational awareness tool. It does not require a website account for normal use.
Information we process
Depending on the feature you use, MetarBot may process:
- Search text, such as ICAO, IATA, airport names, flight numbers, aircraft registrations, or aircraft hex identifiers.
- Airport, runway, METAR, TAF, NOTAM, SIGMET, AIRMET, wind, airspace, chart, and traffic data needed to show a briefing or map layer.
- Browser preferences such as theme, language, map mode, recent searches, saved airports, and alert settings.
- Web push subscription data if you explicitly enable push alerts, including the push endpoint, browser-provided keys, watched airports or aircraft, and alert status.
- Approximate or precise device location only when you use a browser feature that asks for location permission.
- Technical request information normally sent by browsers and servers, such as IP address, user agent, timestamps, requested URLs, and error logs.
How we use information
We use information to operate and improve MetarBot, including to:
- Return airport briefings, weather charts, runway wind, and map overlays.
- Show traffic, aircraft details, aircraft photos, route data, and live map context.
- Remember local preferences and recent requests in your browser.
- Send optional browser push alerts that you choose to enable.
- Protect the service from abuse, debug issues, measure service reliability, and understand aggregate usage.
We do not sell personal information and we do not build advertising profiles from your MetarBot usage.
Browser storage and service workers
MetarBot uses browser storage, including local storage and service-worker caches, to keep the interface fast and to remember preferences such as theme, language, recent requests, map mode, saved airports, and alert settings.
You can clear this data through your browser settings. Clearing site data may remove saved preferences, recent searches, offline caches, and push alert state on that device.
Push notifications
Push notifications are optional. If you enable them, your browser creates a push subscription that MetarBot stores so it can send alerts for selected airports or aircraft.
You can disable notifications in MetarBot or revoke the permission in your browser or operating system settings. When a push provider reports that a subscription is no longer valid, we may remove it from our records.
Location
Some map features can use your device location to center the map or show your current position. Location is requested only through the browser permission prompt. You can deny or revoke that permission at any time in browser settings.
Aviation data and third-party providers
MetarBot combines data from MetarBot databases and aviation, weather, map, traffic, chart, NOTAM, and aircraft-photo providers. Some requests are made from MetarBot servers; some map tiles, imagery, or embedded assets may be requested directly by your browser from the relevant provider.
Third-party services may receive standard technical request information, such as IP address and user agent, when your browser loads their content. Their own privacy policies govern their handling of that information.
Cookies and analytics
MetarBot does not use advertising cookies or third-party ad tracking pixels on the public website. The service may use local browser storage and server-side operational logs for core functionality, reliability, abuse prevention, and aggregate usage statistics.
Retention
Browser-stored preferences and caches remain on your device until you clear them or the browser removes them. Push subscriptions are kept while alerts are enabled or while the subscription remains valid. Server logs, internal counters, and operational records are kept only as long as reasonably needed for service operation, debugging, security, and reliability.
Security
We use technical and organizational measures intended to protect MetarBot systems and data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, but we work to limit data collection to what is needed for the service and to protect operational credentials and infrastructure.
Children
MetarBot is an aviation information tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
